Bhagwant Singh Bhamba: A Legacy of Grassroots Leadership and Village Transformation
Bhagwant Singh Bhamba, son of Shri Aroor Singh Bhamba, stands as a revered figure in the socio-political history of Karnal and its surrounding regions. Throughout his public journey, he has been widely recognized for his unwavering commitment to the development of Nissing village and the upliftment of marginalized communities. Whether through his roles in political organizations or as a dedicated sarpanch, chairman of the Block Samiti Nissing, and vice chairman of Zila Parishad Karnal, Bhamba Ji consistently championed progress that directly touched the lives of the people.
One of his most remarkable achievements was the complete transformation of Nissing village during his tenure. He initiated the construction of roads connecting remote areas, brought in essential infrastructure such as a bus stand and an Industrial Training Institute (ITI), and oversaw the development of a large school building and anganwadis for early childhood care. His support extended to agricultural growth with the establishment of an anaj mandi, while power stations were upgraded to improve energy access for residents. A devoted community builder, he ensured the allocation of panchayat plots and the construction of homes for needy families. And Gaushala for the gau mata sewa in nissing. Bhamba Ji also prioritized dignity and inclusion by creating community centers (chaupats) for Balmiki, Harijan, Majhbi, Khatik, and other underrepresented groups. He famously relocated the haddi roda—a bone waste disposal site—that had long burdened the Harijan community living nearby, offering them long-awaited relief.
Bhamba Ji’s leadership went beyond infrastructure. He fostered cultural and athletic spirit in Nissing by organizing Ram Lila festivities year after year and initiating annual games on Vaisakhi. In 1993, he brought national-level basketball and handball tournaments to the village—a rare feat that showcased Nissing on a broader map of youth and sports development. During his years of service, nearly all major developments in the village took root under his guidance.
Politically, Bhagwant Singh Bhamba participated across party lines with a focus on service and unity. His association with the Bahujan Samaj Party included serving as the Kisan Cell President of Haryana and Seh-Parbhari for Himachal Pradesh, alongside Maan Singh Manheda Ji, during which time BSP gained notable public traction in the region. However, Bhamba Ji remained committed to practical results over political grandstanding, building trust with leaders such as Ch. Bhajan Lal, former Chief Minister of Haryana, and working across platforms to address people's concerns.
His dedication to community welfare, inclusive leadership, and progressive village planning not only earned him respect among peers but also cemented his legacy as a changemaker who genuinely uplifted the lives of thousands. For the people of Nissing and Haryana, Bhagwant Singh Bhamba is remembered not just as a political figure—but as a builder of dreams, dignity, and lasting development.
He started his political career as the member panchayat of nissing. Still assosiated with Congress party and working for the sake of people of his region.
Right now bhamba ji is the member of working committee of Khalsa College karnal.
